1,3(6H)-Thiazine-6-spiro-2′-thiirane-2-thiones 2a-c and 3′,3′-di substituted 2-methylthio-1,3-thiazine-6-spiro-2′-thiiranes 12a-f were synthesized by the reaction of 1,3-thiazine-2,6-dithiones 1 or 11a-d, which are 2-methylthio derivatives of thiazinedithiones 1, with diazomethane derivatives. 1,3(6H)-Thiazine-6-spiro-2′-thiiranes 2a-c and 12a-f rearranged into a series of 2-pyrroline-4-thione derivatives 3a-c and methyl 4-thioxopyrroline-1-dithiocarboxylates 13a-f on treatment with a base or gentle heating. 2-Pyrroline-4-thione derivative 13c, upon heating to 140 degrees C for 1 h, reversely rearranged into the thiirane derivative 12c. The structure of the 2-pyrroline-4-thione 13e was determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis.

Photodynamic activity of nanostructured fabrics grafted with xanthene and thiazine dyes against opportunistic fungi

Fungi are an important class of human pathogens for which considerable research has gone into defeating them. The photodynamic effects of rose bengal (RB), phloxine B (PB), azure A (AA), and toluidine blue O (TBO) dyes to inhibit Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus niger, Trichoderma viride, Penicillium funiculosum, and Chaetomium globosum were investigated grafted to nano- and micro-structured fabrics. Three antifungal tests conducted: broth microdilution test of free dyes, zone of inhibition and quantitative antifungal assays on fabrics grafted with dyes. In the broth microdilution test, free RB displayed the lowest MIC at 32 mu M to inhibit visible hyphal growth and germination but the antifungal ability of MIC for other photosensitizers below 63 mu M was insignificant. RB and PB showed lower MIC than AA and TBO. In the inhibition zone tests, nanostructured fabrics grafted with RB and PB did not display fungal growth on the surface. Most microstructured fabrics grafted with AA and TBO showed little inhibition. In quantitative antifungal assay, nanostructured fabrics grafted with RB has the largest inhibition rate on T. viride and the lowest inhibition rate on P. funiculosum and the results showed the increasing inhibition rate in the order of AA < TBO < PB < RB. Electrochemical Evaluation and DFT Studies of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-4,6-dioxo-8-phenyl-4,6-dihydropyrimido[2,1-b][1,3]thiazine-7-carbonitrile of Carbon Steel Corrosion in Hydrochloric Acid

In present study corrosion inhibition property of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-4,6-dioxo-8-phenyl-4,6-dihydropyrimido[2,1-b][1,3]thiazine-7-carbonitrile (CHPPC) in 1.0 M HCl was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization and DFT studies. From electrochemical measurements it is observed that inhibition efficiency increases with CHPPC concentration and maximum efficiency (98.9) was obtained at 1.0 mM. The potentiodynamic study reveals that pyrimidothiazine derivative is a mixed type inhibitor with predominant cathodic action. EIS plot indicates that the addition of inhibitor increases the charge-transfer resistance (Rct) and decreases the double-layer capacitance (Cdl) of the corrosion process, these observation reveal that investigated pyrimidothiazine derivative inhibits carbon steel corrosion by adsorption mechanism. Adsorption of pyrimidothiazine derivative on carbon steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The effect of temperature on the corrosion rate was investigated and some thermodynamic parameters were also calculated in order to explain the mechanism of adsorption. A theoretical study of the corrosion inhibition efficiency of this pyrimidothiazine derivative, was carried out using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level of theory.

The characteristics of equilibrium between the monomeric and dimeric forms of the thiazine dye methylene blue in aqueous solutions containing potassium salts are determined via spectrophotometry. It is found that raising the salt concentration shifts equilibrium toward the formation of the dimer. Based on the results from studying the reduction of methylene blue by ascorbic acid in the presence of albumin in various ionic media, it is shown that the effect the protein has on the rate of hydrogen transfer depends on the ion composition of the solution. The effect albumin has on this reaction is similar to that of amino compounds. It is concluded that the stage of the reduction affected by amino compounds and proteins is the protonation of the neutral form of the dye.

Synthesis of Polynuclear Heterocyclic Compounds Derived from 1-Biphenyl-4-yl-4-(1-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-But-2-en-1-One with Expected Biological Activity

NUCLEOPHILIC addition of barbituric acid, thioglycolic acid with malononitrile and 3-Amino-5-pyrazolinone with 1-Biphenyl-4-yl-4-(1-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-but-2-en-1-one (1) gives pyrimidine, Thiazol and pyrazolinone derivatives (2-4), repectively. Compound 4 which reacted with Arylidene malononitrile in ethanol to give pyrano derivatives (5). Cyclocondensation of chalcone (1) with thiourea under reflux in ethanolic NaOH led to thiazine derivative (6) and treatment of (6) with bromine-acetic acid mixture afforded compound (7) similarly, cyclization of chalcone (1) with orthophenylinediamine in Dimethylformamide (DMF) gave diazepine derivatives (8). Also, chalcone (1) reacted with 3-Amino-5-pyrazolinone in ethanol to give pyrazolinone derivative (9). (Scheme 1). The condensation of compound (1) with 2-cyanoacetohydrazide through the acid-catalyzed reaction to form the Schiff base (10) by heating in 96% acetic acid gave the diazetidine derivative (11) which upon reaction with phosphorous oxychloride gave the chlorodiazetidine derivative (12), the latter compound reacted with 2ry amines and yielded the substitueted amino diazetidine derivatives (13(a-c)). The complex of zinc with N-(5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-thiazine-2-yl)benzamide

A complex of zinc with N-(5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-thiazin-2-yl)benzamide (L) ligand, LZnCl2, was synthesized for subsequent medical trials. The molar extinction coefficients were determined for LHBr solutions in water and physiological saline, and for LZnCl2 ethanol solution. The ligand stability in various solvents was evaluated and the value of its protonation constant was found for the physiological saline solution, logK = 5.3 +/- 0.2. The impossibility of determination of the complex stability constant by the potentiometric titration method was demonstrated. The complex exhibited an insufficient stability in aqueous and physiological saline solutions, but was stable as the solution in alcohol. There was no sorption observed upon the treatment of ligand with hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, which could be a potential carrier for the therapeutic form of LZnCl2, providing additional degrees of freedom for the interaction of ligand with cell membranes and a prolonged action of zinc ions.

Novel arylazothiazoles and arylazo[1,3,4]thiadiazoles as potential antimicrobial and anticancer agents: synthesis, molecular modeling, and biological screening

In this study, we tested two novel series of 5-arylazo-2-hydrazonothiazoles 6a-g and 2-hydrazono[1,3,4]thiadiazoles 12a-c as antimicrobial and anticancer agents. These series were prepared from the reactions of 2-{1-[4-(2,4-dihydroxyphenylazo)phenyl]ethylidene}thiosemi-carbazide (3) with alpha-keto hydrazonoyl halides and N-aryl arenecarbohydrazonoyl halides. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were elucidated by infrared, H-1 and C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance, and gas chromatography mass spectrometry spectral data. The antibacterial activity against two types of Gm +ve bacteria and, two types for Gm -ve bacteria, and the antifungal activity against four fungi microorganisms were evaluated by a well diffusion method for the synthesized compounds. Of these novel compounds, thiazole derivatives 6a-g showed mostly promising antibacterial activity against Gm +ve strains and antifungal activity compared to the reference drugs. A successful step was achieved to explain of their mode of action through molecular docking of the most active molecules at a target enzyme, CYP51. Moreover, the antiproliferative activity was tested against three human carcinoma cell lines [human colon carcinoma (HCT-116), human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), and human liver carcinoma (HEPG-2)], showing promising anticancer activities compared to the doxorubicin drug. The data suggest that the arylthiazole scaffold derivatives 6a-g exhibited good antimicrobial and anticancer activities and might be used as leads for further optimization.

Characterization and photocatalytic performance evaluation of various metal ion-doped microstructured TiO2 under UV and visible light

Commercially available microcrystalline TiO2 was doped with silver, ferrous and ferric ion (1.0mol %) using silver nitrate, ferrous sulfate and ferric nitrate solutions following the liquid impregnation technology. The catalysts prepared were characterised by FESEM, XRD, FTIR, DRS, particle size and micropore analysis. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared catalysts was tested on the degradation of two model dyes, methylene blue (3,7-bis (Dimethylamino)-phenothiazin-5-ium chloride, a cationic thiazine dye) and methyl blue (disodium;4-[4-[[4-(4-sulfonatoanilino)phenyl]-[4-(4-sulfonatophenyl)azaniumylidenecyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]methyl]anilino]benzene sulfonate, an anionic triphenyl methane dye) under irradiation by UV and visible light in a batch reactor. The efficiency of the photocatalysts under UV and visible light was compared to ascertain the light range for effective utilization. The catalysts were found to have the anatase crystalline structure and their particle size is in a range of 140-250nm. In the case of Fe2+ doped TiO2 and Fe3+ doped TiO2, there was a greater shift in the optical absorption towards the visible range. Under UV light, Ag+ doped TiO2 was the most efficient catalyst and the corresponding decolorization was more than 99% for both the dyes. Under visible light, Fe3+ doped TiO2 was the most efficient photocatalyst with more than 96% and 90% decolorization for methylene blue and methyl blue, respectively. The kinetics of the reaction under both UV and visible light was investigated using the Langmuir-Hinshelwood pseudo-first-order kinetic model. Kinetic measurements confirmed that, Ag+ doped TiO2 was most efficient in the UV range, while Fe3+ doped TiO2 was most efficient in the visible range.
