Metal complexes of copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II), oxovanadium(IV), chromium(III) and cadmium(II) with a new bridged ONS dibasic tridentate hydrazone (H2L) derived from 5-acetyl-4-hydroxy-2H-1,3-thiazine-2,6(3H)-dione with S-methyl dithiocarbazate have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, spectral (infrared, electronic, mass, H-1 NMR and ESR) studies as well as thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The synthesized complexes have dimeric structures with the general formula [ML(NO3)(m)(H2O)(x)](2)center dot nH(2)O center dot zMeOH, L = dianion of the hydrazone, m = 0-1, x = 0-2, n = 0-4 and z = 0-1. The metal complexes exhibited square planar, tetrahedral and octahedral geometrical arrangements, the molar conductivity data indicates that all complexes are neutral. The Coats-Redfern equation was used to calculate the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for the different thermal decomposition stages of some complexes. Structural parameters of the ligand and its metal complexes have been theoretically computed on the basis of semiempirical PM3 level and the results were correlated with their experimental data. Characterization of the synthesized complexes was established based on elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, spectral (infrared, electronic, mass, H-1-NMR and ESR) as well as thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The complexes exhibited octahedral and square planer geometry. The antimicrobial activity for the studied complexes was tested for different kind of organisms. The geometrical and non-linear optical parameters of the studied complexes 1-3 are investigated theoretically at the B3LYP/GENECP level of theory. The optimized geometries of the studied complexes are non-planner as indicated from the dihedral angles. The natural charge population (core, valence and Rydberg), exact electronic configuration, total Lewis, and total non-Lewis is computed and discussed in terms of natural bond orbitals (NBO) analysis. The calculated E-HOMO and E-LUMO energies at the same level of theory of the studied complexes were used to calculate the global properties; hardness (), global softness (S), electrophilicity () and electronegativity (). The total dipole moment ((tot)), total and anisotropy of polarizability (??), () and first hyperpolarizability (??) values were calculated and compared with urea as a reference compound. A highly efficient one pot green synthesis of benzo[b][1,4]thiazine-4-carbonitrile has been achieved under solvent-free conditions by the reaction of 2-aminobenzothiazole with terminal alkynes using microwave irradiation in the presence of Iron(III)fluoride as a catalyst. The unique features of this environmentally benign protocol are use of inexpensive catalyst, short reaction time, a wide range of functional group tolerance, easy and quick isolation of products with good to excellent yields via a simple experimental and work-up procedure. Benzimidazole is an important moiety from a medicinal chemistry perspective due to its various biological activities such as antimicrobial, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-Alzheimers, and anti-inflammatory, etc. 2-acetylbenzimidazole is exploited to obtain various heterocyclic compounds of pharmacological interest. This review’s main motive is to present the literature on 2-acetylbenzimidazole chemistry and provide valuable and up-to-date information for its applications. The present review is carried out by compiling literature from 1964 to 2020 concerning the synthesis and biological aspects of various heterocyclic compounds derived from 2-acetylbenzimidazole. Literature was collected from various online search engines viz. Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, Core, and Semantic scholar. 2-acetylbenzimidazole has been successfully employed as a synthon to obtain heterocyclic system viz. oxirane, pyrazoline, thiazole, pyrazole, isoxazoline, isoxazole, pyridine, pyrimidine, thiazine, diazepine, and other miscellaneous rings. 2-acetylbenzimidazole has shown promise for the convenient synthesis of various heterocyclic compounds.
