The first observation on polymerization of 1,3-benzothiazines: synthesis of mono- and bis-thiazine monomers and thermal properties of their polymers

A monofunctional 1,3-benzothiazine (PH-a-BZT) has been synthesized by a method different from the one reported in the literature. Additionally, a difunctional version of 1,3-benzothiazine (PH-ddm-BZT) monomer has been synthesized. Polymerization of mono- and bis-thiazine monomers has been studied and confirmed for the first time. The two monomers are characterized with proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR) along with Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The cross-linked polybenzothiazine which is derived from the bis-thiazine monomer shows excellent thermal properties as examined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Polybenzothiazine is developed in hopes that it could mimic many of benzoxazine’s popular attributes while containing sulfur in place of oxygen atoms. It can also possess unique advantages such as higher flame retardancy and adhesiveness to the metal substrate than polybenzoxazine due to the characteristic sulfur atom in its polymer.

Synthesis and Antimicrobial Evaluation of some Functionalized Heterocycles Derived from Novel Quinolinyl Chalcone

The reaction of 3-acetyl-4-hydroxyl-1-methylquinolin-2(1H)-one (1) with 10-oxo-4,6,7,8,9,10-hexahydropyrazolo[1,5-a][1]benzothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-3-carbaldehyde (2) afforded the novel enone system 3. The latter compound was reacted with some 1,2-binucleophilic reagents to give pyrazoline derivative 4 and isoxazoline derivative 5. Treatment of chalcone 3 with 1,3-binucleophilic reagents afforded pyrimidine and thiazine derivatives 6-8. Moreover, reaction of compound 3 with active methylene reagents furnished pyridine, pyran, and cyclohexanone derivatives 9-12. Cyclization of compound 12 by using hydrazine hydrate yielded indazol-3-one derivative 13. On the other hand, the cyclocondensation of the enone 3 with 1,4-dinucleophilic reagents yielded diazepine derivative 14 and triazolothiadiazepine derivative 15. The characterization of the newly synthesized heterocyles were confirmed on the basis of their elemental analysis and spectral data (IR, NMR, and MS). These compounds were also screened for their antibacterial activities.

Regional Anesthesia for Dentistry and Orofacial Surgery in Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta)

Regional anesthesia is a commonly used adjunct to orofacial dental and surgical procedures in companion animals and humans. However, appropriate techniques for anesthetizing branches of the mandibular and maxillary nerves have not been described for rhesus monkeys. Skulls of 3 adult rhesus monkeys were examined to identify relevant foramina, establish appropriate landmarks for injection, and estimate injection angles and depth. Cadaver heads of 7 adult rhesus monkeys (4 male, 3 female) were then injected with thiazine dye to demonstrate correct placement of solution to immerse specific branches of the mandibular and maxillary nerves. Different volumes of dye were injected on each side of each head to visualize area of diffusion, and to estimate the minimum volume needed to saturate the area of interest. After injection, the heads were dissected to expose the relevant nerves and skull foramina. We describe techniques for blocking the maxillary nerve as well as its branches: the greater palatine nerve, nasopalatine nerve, and infraorbital nerve. We also describe techniques for blocking branches of the mandibular nerve: inferior alveolar nerve, mental (or incisive) nerve, lingual nerve, and long buccal nerve. Local anesthesia for the mandibular and maxillary nerves can be accomplished in rhesus macaques and is a practical and efficient way to maximize animal welfare during potentially painful orofacial procedures.

Organo-nanocatalysis: An emergent green methodology for construction of bioactive oxazines and thiazines under ultrasonic irradiation

A synergistic catalysts system ZnO NPs and Malic acid was used for the highly efficient and eco-friendly synthesis of oxazines and thiazines derivatives. Aldehyde, urea and alkyne derivatives are used as reactants under ultrasonication, which not only allows clean and rapid alteration but also simplifies experimental setup. In the title compound, C25H20N2O2S, the dihydroisoxazole ring exhibits an envelope conformation with the methine atom being the flap, while the 1,4-thiazine ring displays a screw-boat conformation. The six-membered ring fused to the 1,4-thiazine ring makes dihedral angles of 63.04 (2) and 54.7 (2)degrees with the mean planes through the five-membered heterocycle and the attached phenyl ring, respectively. The phenyl group connected to the 1,4-thiazine ring is disordered over two sites [major component = 0.57 (2)]. The most prominent interactions in the crystal structure are C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds that link molecules, forming inversion dimers, and C-H center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen bonds that link the dimers into columns parallel to the b axis.

Topically applied azaphenothiazines inhibit experimental psoriasis in mice

The therapeutic efficacy of topically applied azaphenothiazine derivatives: 9-chloro-6-acetylaminobutylquinobenzo[3,2-b] [1,4]thiazine (compound 4) and 6-chloroethylureidoethyldiquino[3,2-b;2′;3′-e] [1,4]thiazine (compound 5) in the amelioration of inflammatory symptoms of imiquimod-induced psoriasis in mice was investigated. Clobederm (R), containing clobetasol propioniate, served as a reference drug. The application of the compounds led to thinning of the epidermis and reduction of the cell layers. The suppressive actions of the compounds were even stronger with regard to pathological changes of the dermis. The compounds also exerted generalized, anti-inflammatory effects by decreasing the number of circulating leukocytes, lowering subiliac lymph node weight and partially normalizing an altered blood cell composition. The changes in the composition of main cell types in the epidermis and dermis were less affected by the compounds. In addition, both compounds inhibited to a similar degree production of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) in human whole blood cell culture. Whereas compound 5 strongly inhibited IL-8 and CXCL10 chemokines in human keratinocytes – KERTr cell line, transfected with poly(I:C), the suppressive action of compound 4 in this model was weak. In addition, compound 5, but not compound 4, exhibited at low doses proapoptotic properties with regard to colonic cell lines. In summary, we demonstrated the therapeutic potential of two selected azaphenotiazines in the amelioration of the skin pathology elicited in a mouse experimental model of psoriasis.

Enhancement of nonlinear optical response of methylene blue and azure a during association with colloidal CdS quantum dots

The nonlinear optical response of thiazine dyes during association with colloidal CdS quantum dots (QDs) applying the z-scan technique at wavelength of 532 nm with use 10 ns pulses of Nd:YAG laser second harmonic were studied. Increasing in nonlinear absorption intensity in hybrid associates in comparison with the initial components were found. Moreover, UV-vis absorption spectrum shows the effective formation of dyes H-aggregates during association with colloidal QDs. Two-photon mechanism of observed nonlinear absorption in hybrid associates is proposed, based on a sharper dependence of the normalized transmittance on the incident intensity (distance between the sample and focal plane of focusing lens). And for pure solutions, the reverse saturated absorption is preferred nonlinear absorption mechanism. The nonlinear absorption coefficients for MB and AzA in the hybrid associates were found. They are beta approximate to 8.4 x 10(-9) cm W-1 (sic) approximate to 1.34 x 10(-8) cm W-1, respectively. It was shown that it is possible to control the parameters of nonlinear absorption of thiazine dyes via the hybrid association.
